Our journey begins early at 4:00 AM with a pick-up from your hotel for a 2-hour drive to the town of Mollepata. Here, we will make a brief stop to enjoy breakfast at a local restaurant before continuing on the road for another hour until we reach Soraypampa. Once we arrive at the parking area, we will begin our uphill trek toward the famous Humantay Lake.
We will hike along a beautiful path that forms part of the classic Salkantay Trek, which is primarily uphill. Shortly into the hike, we will pass a small settlement where Salkantay trekkers often camp. From there, we will ascend an additional 387 meters over a steep 3-kilometer trail for about an hour and a half. After crossing the final moraine, the stunning turquoise waters of Humantay Lake will come into view. This pristine lake is fed by the melting glaciers of the impressive Humantay mountain.
Along the way to the lake, you will enjoy magnificent views of Mount Salkantay, one of the highest peaks in Cusco at 6,300 meters above sea level ($6,300\text{ m.a.s.l.}$), which is deeply respected and revered by the local people. The majestic Mount Humantay, standing at 5,900 meters above sea level ($5,900\text{ m.a.s.l.}$), is also visible most of the time. Once at the lakeshore, we will enjoy some time to relax, have a snack, and walk around this magical setting.
When you are ready to head back, we will descend to Soraypampa to enjoy a delicious lunch. Afterward, we will drive 2 hours back to Cusco and drop you off at your hotel, bringing our tour to an end.
